Just Be Grateful

Enjoy your Christmas dinner, friends, the turkey’s very fat,

the Indians are much bitter, friends, please, don’t think of that!

Just think of your festivities, the parties you must run,

don’t think of dying children, friends, that will only spoil your fun.

You’d better just be grateful, and although you’ve got a lot.

And although you've got a plateful, You’ve gonna hang on to what you’ve got.

Enjoy your carol service, friends, in a chapel warm and bright,

don’t think too much on shanty towns were people freeze on night.

Just think about your lovely home so tall and warm and wide,

and don’t look out the window friends, they’re dying just outside.

Enjoy your meetings, high or low, take part in church affairs,

but don’t be too surprised that there’s no answers to your prayers.

Just play your cornet, bang your drum, sing the songs once more,

sing them louder so’s you can’t hear the knocking at the door.
